MDG (2)India aims to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of reducing child morality and improving maternal health in 2015 with the increase in funding in healthcare system.

According to Bhagwant Bishnoi, Indian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, while addressing a session of Commission of Population and Development, almost 400 percent increase in federal funding and investments in healthcare systems, efforts in improvement have begun to show results.


He added that the governments National Rural Health Mission and other innovative health interventions have led to increase in life expectancy, increase in immunisation of children, and substantial drop in under-five, neo natal and maternal mortality rates between 1990 and 2013. Indias inclusion is a special challenge and responsibility, given its vast social, regional and economic diversity.
