investA source in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed that they are planning to add 3,000 beds in 18 civic hospitals located in the western and central suburbs. Currently, there are 4,600 beds in the suburban civic hospitals which are inadequate to cater to the demand of the ever increasing number of patients.

Four out of these 18 hospitals are super specialty hospitals. The source revealed that around 600 beds would be added in Bhandup hospital. An equal number of beds would be added to MT Agarwal civic hospital of Mulund. Other suburban hospitals will also go for a phase-wise renovation which will help in increasing the number of beds. Bhagwati hospital in Borivli will also get around 1,000 beds.

“Addition of beds is a welcome move. It will cater to the demand of more beds and would help the poor patients, said Gyanmurti Sharma, BJP corporator and chairman of law committee, BMC.
