BanglaThe Asthma Awareness Trust (AAT), in association with the National Allergy Asthma Bronchitis Institute (NAABI) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has launched a website that teaches rudimentary Bengali to doctors treating Bengali-speaking patient anywhere in the world.

The website, www.bangla.net.in, aims to bridge the language barrier between the doctors efforts to explain diagnosis to patients in Bengali.

It will help non-Bengali speaking medical professionals or those looking after Bengali-speaking patients in any part of the world to know just enough Bangla to understand patients better.

Health workers registering to the website learn what each organ is called in Bengali, how to pronounce the symeptom in that language, and finally, how to express each symptom in the language. Upon learning all he three stages, the user gets a confirmation through an sms.

In the future, more languages are to be added to list, as well as a certification for the programs.
