chronic cigaretteThe Supreme Court of India issued notice on a PIL filed by filmmaker Aditya Agarwal seeking complete ban on the production of cigarettes and other tobacco products in India.

The notice was issued to the central government and all state governments and union territories.


A court bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha said it was for the lawmakers to decide.

Sunil Rajpal’s lawyer Aditya Agrawal had argued that the money spent on the treatment of smoking-related ailments far exceeded the revenue earned on tobacco products. This negating the arguments for not banning the tobacco industry.
