Radiation Oncology

To train clinicians and technologists in the understanding and practice of quality radiation treatment for cancer patients, the Department of Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurgaon, will now offer short and long-term fellowships in Radiation Oncology.


The fellowship programme aims to provide observership/hands-on exposure to Doctors, Medical Physicists and Radiation Therapy Technologists in a well-balanced training environment. Noted radiation oncologists Dr B K Mohanti, Director and HOD of Radiation Oncology; Dr Anusheel Munshi, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology; Dr T. Ganesh, Chief Medical Physicist, Radiation Oncology, together with a team ofradiation oncologists,physicists and radiotherapy technologists will train the candidates.

Dr B K Mohanti said,The Department integrates clinical excellence and research to achieve the best possible outcomes for its patients and is fully-equipped to provide high-end standard and emerging treatments in Radiation Oncology. It is our endeavour to train doctors, physicists, technologists in this cutting-edge treatment programme, with the help of top-of-the-line equipment for radiation therapy.

Dr Dilpreet Brar, Regional Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, said, FMRI provides end-to-end treatment in cancer with special focus on comprehensive care covering Medical Oncology,Surgical Oncology,including niche areas like Gynae-Onco, Uro-Onco, Paediatric-Onco and Haemato-Onco. In addition to medical and surgical oncology, the hospitals Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped to deliver targeted high-precision radiotherapy. One of the technologies available at FMRI includes the Elekta, the worlds first project for precision radio-surgery in association with Brain Lab. With a course involving the study of such advanced technologies and instruction by Indias most renowned radiation therapy experts, candidates enrolling for the fellowship can expect a significant value addition to their knowledge and skills in the specialty.
The programme will comprise of different levels of training depending on the duration and eligibility of the candidate, from general observership of the treatment process to a comprehensive programme that will enable candidates to practise as radiation oncologists,medical physicists and radiation therapy technologists. The duration of fellowships will vary accordingly from a week to a year.Complete course material shall also be provided to all participants at the beginning of the course.


Doctors and physicists undergoing post-graduate/DNB/other relevant course in any institution/university can undertake multiple fellowships depending upon their progress. At the end of the fellowship, all participants shall be assessed and a certificate will be issued. Applications can be sent round the calendar year, preferably 2 months in advance by Indian professionals.
