Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have signed a MoU for a partnership to promote globally recognised health academics and scientific research in India. The partnership brings a unique opportunity to offer academic programs starting from August 2013. The two programs that are being offered this year are: Integrated MSc and PhD in Clinical Research and Health Informatics. Both the programs support AcSIR’s mission and vision of affordable health care by advancing knowledge and technology and also fulfils PHFI’s mandate of improving research by imparting training to health professionals.

The MoU was signed by Prof Gautam Biswas (Acting Director, AcSIR) and Prof Sanjay Zodpey (Director, Public Health Education, PHFI). Dr Aiyagiri Rao (PHFI), Prof Nagesh Iyer and Prof Kunal Roy (AcSIR) were some of the senior scientists who attended the meeting.

Both programs are a blend of principles of basic and advanced research and its application in health sector and aim to contribute in innovative ways to promote health and improve patient management in India. During the academic tenure, apart from the program activities and academic support from the faculty, the students will be exposed to series of workshops relevant to the specific course (modules) and due importance will be given to impart soft skills that enhance their placement opportunities globally. Successful completions of the programs serve as excellent foundation to go on to take higher degrees like PhD (within and outside India).

This partnership aims to enhance and promote initiatives to address the public health issues in a comprehensive and innovative manner. The mission is to create highest quality personnel with cross- disciplinary knowledge, aiming to provide leaders in the field of science and technology. The last mile hurdles that impede transfer of lab-strength of AcSIR to the bedside may be met by PHFIs knowledge of those domain and networks with public health and medical institutions.

PHFI, a public-private partnership endeavour is a large uniquely designed & sustainable response to the service shortfall of public health professionals in India (www.phfi.org). The PHFIs charter includes enhancement of capacity of existing public health training institutions, pursuing research and advocacy efforts on public health and related issues though its Institutes of Public Health.

The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) is as an Institution of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament, the Academy of Scientific Innovative Research Act, 2011 with a view to maximize the number of qualified researchers and professionals of impeccable quality in the domain of science; The Academys (www.acsir.res.in) mandate is to create and train some of the best of tomorrows science and technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and uation.
