Technology can really impact cost of providing services promptly in healthcaredelivery. Its deployment will also renderthe processes transparent. Indian hospitals have been slow in adopting technology but for billing and administrationprocesses. Huge benefits can be realised with technology deployment withinthe hospital supply chain, emergencyresponse, discharge processes etc. Many hospitals have adopted and benefitted from technology deployment especially Health Information Services systemsPicture Archiving Communication Systemsystems etc. Another area that is yet untapped is the potential benefits that will result from networking small hospitals.

We offer design andmanagementconsultancy for hospitals ofwhich ICT is a part. Weoptimise work flow processes and assist hospitals in implementingtechnologies like barcode etc.

In this respect, whatis the market share ofyour target market beit Health IT or Medicalequipment? What is the growthpotential of this segment?
We see a growth of 20-20 percent inthis segment. Presently our services areavailed more in the Gulf CorporationCouncil (GCC) countries where technology adoption is more than IndianHospitals.

What changes or rather sayadvancement has happened overthe years in your targeted healthtechnology segment?
Several changes like cloud computing, faster networks, more medical equipment are coming on HL7 platform thatmakes it possible to integrate medicalequipment into hospital systems likeintegrating alarms, automatic dose settings depending of on condition of thepatients etc.

How the doctor-patient fraternityhas been adopting the changes thathealth technologies have brought tomodern healthcare?
Doctors and patients have adapted totechnology well in terms of enhancingcommunication and non-clinical part ofthe services. However, in areas like CreditDefault Swap System (CDSS), ElectronicMedical Record (EMR), automated prescription and order filling systems etc.the adoption is slow and yet to take off.

In making the transition smooth, what steps you think a hospital orhealthcare institute should take? Doyou have a role to play in this?
The critical issue is the buy-in by the topmanagement and clinical team. Withoutthis even if the systems are implemented itwill not be properly used. The second factor is training and hand holding that is required during the transition phase. It is extremely important to adequately estimatethe time required and budget for the same.

What is your view on AndhraPradesh healthcare?
Andhra Pradesh has been on the fore frontof healthcare developments in India. Be inthe private hospital sector, medical education or public health initiatives like Arogyashree. Hospitals have adopted technology early on and have access to the latestin the market. AP being the hub of IT hasbenefited the hospitals in this regard.
