ICICI Lombard, the countrys largest private sector general insurance company, has said in a report that around 15 per cent of Indian families have reported hospitalisation of a member at least once in the last one year.
The ICICI Lombard-NCAER survey also reveals that confidence of managing health expenditure falls with a dip in family income levels. “The survey reveals that around 15 percent of the families report hospitalisation of a member at least once within last one year,” it said, adding confidence of managing health expenditure declines from high socioeconomic classes to low socioeconomic classes. The survey, which covered 5 lakh households, was done by the leading research agency NCAER and covered 32 states and union territories. “The study throws light on interesting aspects regarding health related expenses. It provides us with valuable insights on the spread of insurance across the country,” ICICI Lombard General Insurance managing director and chief utive Bhargav Dasgupta told reporters. He also said the company will design products taking into account the insights from this survey in the future. ICICI Lombard marketing head Shankar Nath said a detailed study is now being carried out across one lakh households where further insights on health insurance will be obtained.
