UK-based Castlebeck Care has agreed to close its Arden Vale service in Solihull, the West Midlands, following the receipt of a legal notice from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). In June, the social care regulator made unannounced inspections of Arden Vale, which provides care for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems, and raised major concerns with 12 of the 16 essential standards care providers are expected to meet, including safeguarding and the management of medicines. The regulator urged Castlebeck (Teesdale) to remove the service from the company’s registration and begin the legal process required to ensure improvements. CQC regional director for the West and East Midlands Andrea Gordon said, “CQC demanded improvements, and when they did not see evidence of the improvements, they took action to protect people by initiating the legal process required to close a service.
