The citizens need to wait for implementation of health insurance portability system by IRDA across non-life insurance companies to October 1. Previously, insurance analysts had declared that it would implement health insurance portability that permits a client to shift from one insurance company to the other while keeping on the policy, from July 1. IRDA has embarked upon offering up a web-based trait for the insurance companies to feed in all appropriate details on health insurance plans issued by them to people, which will be accessed by the novel company to which a customer wants to port his insurance plan. Such a system will permit the novel insurance company to get efficiently information on record of health insurance of the client wishing to port. Portability will help a health insurance policy holder switch from one company to the other. According to IRDA, it is necessary for general insurance companies to have historical data on the policy holder’s health related details of claims to ensure that portability is available in a smooth manner for the policyholders. For this, it is working on a web based facility for the insurers wherein they can feed in all relevant details on health insurance policies issued by them to individuals which can be accessed by the new company to which a policyholder wishes to port his policy. This will enable the new insurer to obtain data on history of health insurance of the policyholder wishing to port. Keywords: IRDA, Health Insurance, Portability, web based, policy holder
