President and Managing Director, MSD Pharmaceuticals Limited K G Ananthakrishnan and leading paedetrician, Dr Manjira Mitra, announced the national launch of the unique health product in India. It was reported that rotavirus affected one-fourth of the global death (610,000) of children every year. The deadly water borne disease killed 200 children every year. This new health product Rotateq is supposed to go a long way to save the child mortality rate by about 85 per cent in the coming years. So far, this new vaccine has saved millions of children in across 62 countries. There are plans to set up state-of-the-art research and development laboratory in equal partnership with the Hillman Pharmaceuticals of the UK in the name of ”Welcome Trust Hillman Laboratories” in India too. Both the companies are investing a total amount of 180 million pounds would be equally behind the great project with the best medical scientists to develop ”Rotavirus” vaccine for children in the tropical countries.
