Royal Philips Electronics has acquired Dameca, a global provider of anesthesia machines and accessories for the operating room. This acquisition marks an important step in the ution of Philips’ strategy to expand its portfolio with integrated, advanced anesthesia care solutions. Along with Philips’ expertise and well-established position in patient monitoring, interventional imaging systems, and clinical informatics solutions, Dameca further broadens Philips’ current portfolio and provides opportunity for innovation in such areas as anesthesia-related clinical decision support. Philips currently offers anesthesia machines in select countries through Dixtal Medical, which Philips acquired in 2008. “The acquisition of Dameca is a proofpoint of Philips’ growth strategy and ambitions to expand our anesthesia care offerings by combining our strengths in patient monitoring, therapeutic care, and clinical informatics,” said Steve Rusckowski, CEO for Philips Healthcare. “Dameca’s anesthesia machines are a significant complement to our current operating room portfolio and will enable us to offer an integrated solution that will simplify clinician workflow, improve financial outcomes for our customers, and help improve patient care.” Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, Dameca was founded in 1947 and is a privately held company with approximately 70 employees. Its current product line includes anesthesia machines, wall panels, pendant systems, flow meters, suction units, and other accessories. The company uses direct sales channels in the Nordic countries, and serves over 60 countries globally through distributors. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
