Columbia Asia’s leading Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Ajit Huilgol has been appointed the President of the Indian Society of Organ Transplant (ISOT).  Dr. Ajit is known for having done the maximum number of multiple renal artery transplants, double ureter transplants and double kidney cadaver. He is part of the first transplant done in Karnataka in 1980s and since then has carried out several successful transplants in the country. He recently presented a paper on “new technique to be used in kidney transplant” at a recently concluded conference in Vancouver. Recently, Dr Ajit successfully performed a 3rd transplant for a patient, a rare and complex procedure. The patient, having been born with only one kidney and later developing a chronic kidney disease, had undergone two failed transplant surgeries leaving him dependant on dialysis. An accomplished wildlife photographer, Dr. Ajit has also received the BBC runner up award in wildlife photography in London last year in the ‘Behaviour: Mammals’ category’.
