The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has been offering specialized care to its patrons for almost 15 years now. With the up-gradation in the department the hospital continues to show its commitment towards the science of rehabilitation. Early mobilization, independence and resuming routine activities of the patients are the three main goals of the physiotherapist and occupational therapist. Gone are the days when patients were bed ridden for long periods; today they are mobilized out of bed two to three days after major surgeries (Spine Surgeries, Liver transplant, joint replacement, By pass surgeries etc.) and major ailments. It is rightly said that Physiotherapist and Occupational therapist are movement specialists.  Mr. Gaurav Sharma, 19years old swimmer who had lost all his hope as he met with an accident while diving into the pool, says that the dedication and expertise of the professional in the department has literally given him the second lease of life. He had injured his spinal cord, lost control over all his limbs (a quadriplegic) and has been undergoing rehabilitation for the past three months. The spinal experts have noticed and appreciated a marked improvement in his general mobility and functional abilities.

Mr.Kuldeep Tyagi, 32 yrs old Police Inspector whose left hand got stuck in a fan and was injured says that the efforts of rehabilitation medicine and physiotherapy department saved his life from becoming disabled. His index finger which got cut completely was re-implanted and the thumb, which was severely wounded, was also repaired surgically. After 5-6 weeks of physiotherapy and occupational therapy, he is now able to live his life independently. Presently advanced rehabilitation services are offered at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine & Physiotherapy of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. This includes unweighing system (Body weight support tread mill training), which is used to make a quadriplegic/ paraplegic walk on a treadmill. This helps in early mobility of such patients as well as motivates the patient to actively participate in the rehabilitation session. Other equipments include balance master and dynamic stair case which are useful in patient with balance impairments, knee and hip replacements, paralysis, head injury, post fracture cases, ACL Repair and rehabilitation, severe ankle sprain patient and elderly with balance impairments. The professionals in the department work in close collaboration with medical fraternity. The department caters to treatment and rehabilitation of all types of disorders related to spine, neurology, musculoskeletal problems and rheumatology under one roof.  The department organizes regular academic activities such as CMEs, Seminars and Specialty clinics and Camps.
