A new imaging management solution that integrates different types of medical data is being developed to treat rare genetic skeletal diseases.

Scientists from IBM and Italy’s Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute are collaboratively working on a BioMedical Imaging Management Solution (BioMIMS) that will address treatment and research for rare genetic skeletal diseases.

BioMIMS enables advanced analytics on family history records that are dynamically created by the system to correlate between patients who show similar signs of the disease.

The system will give doctors access to all information related to a hereditary disease including genetic information, observations studied and imaging data for faster, less expensive and more personalised diagnosis and treatment, IBM said. The project is scheduled to be complete in 2010.
