Launch of operation against illegal slaughterhouses by ICT Admin to check sale of unhygienic, water-injected meat at Islamabad

On Wednesday, a massive operation against illegal slaughterhouses and sale of unhygienic and water injected meat in the federal capital was launched by Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration. This was done on the basis of the complaints made by the citizens to the administration regarding sale of unhygienic meat in the city. Taking strict notice of these complaints, ICT Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amer Ali Ahmed ordered the assistant commissioners and magistrates to conduct surprise raids in their jurisdictions and take stern action against those involved in sale of unhygienic meat and illegal slaughtering. It was told that Secretariat Magistrate Hussain Bahadur along with District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Amirzada Khan conducted raids in Tarlai area and took on the spot action against those selling unhygienic and sub-standard meat.

An official told that Assistant Commissioner Rural Naila Baqar and Magistrate Rural Kamal Cheema also conducted raids and took action against butchers selling sub-standard meat in Tramri area. The magistrate also raided the houses being used for illegal slaughtering. He issued a final warning to the offenders to refrain from this illegal practice failing which stern action would be taken against them, told an official. The Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with the representatives of Jamiatul Quraish (JQ) at his office and sought their cooperation with the administration in its campaign against sale of unhygienic meat. The JQ representatives assured the administration that they would fully co-operate with the administration. The meeting also decided that samples of meat and other food items would also be taken and sent to labs for tests to ensure the quality of foodstuff and those selling sub-standard food items would be booked for legal action against them, the official concluded.
