Introduction of pentavalent vaccine in the National Immunisation Programme, was kept pending for quite a while, is likely to take off soon. Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) had already approved of the plan and it will forward the same before the Cabinet soon. When Ghulam Nabi Azad took over as the Health and Family Welfare Minister, ‘he took it on priority basis and got over INR 400 crore clearance for the project, ‘ said a senior official in the ministry. The Ministry is now looking at the vaccine availability, depending on which domestic tenders will be floated. The Ministry is also negotiating with the World Bank to get some funds for the scheme. A single shot of the vaccine has antigens of five diseases
