21st Century Healthcare Management Solutions – one of the leading providers of IT solutions and consulting services for healthcare organisations, was the implementation partner of this project who deployed their ‘Apex Plus LIS’ solution in Piramal Diagnostic labs and patient service centres. Piramal Diagnostic Services manages India’s largest chain of Pathology & Radiology centres in India and is an initiative of the pharmaceutical major – Piramal Healthcare. Before implementing this solution, the turn around time for test reports was very long and in certain cases where tests reports were required urgently, this manual process of sending test results was causing delays in diagnosing. Not only was there delay in reporting, but there were also instances that doctors were not having the status of reports. Tracing the samples sent for tests was another challenge for the organisation. After implementation of the LIS, the process got rid from being a manual and error-prone one to a highly automated and efficinet system. Since, the data transfer about a test result takes place directly from the medical equipment to the LIS application, manual entries have been completely avoided, thereby eleminating chances of error. Also doctors can now authenticate reports online by giving their digital signatures. As a future plan, Piramal Diagnostic wants to develop a patient service module on top of the LIS solution through which patients would be able to access his/her report online by securely logging through a website.
