Pelco, a developer of video and security systems, and Barco announced a new integrated solution that is set to offer interoperability of the companies’ streaming video solutions. The system uses an open API standard, allowing Pelco’s video encoders and camera systems to integrate with Barco’s streaming solutions.

According to the companies, the combined solution offers customers ease of installation and integration with third-party applications in their control-room environments. It’s reportedly been successfully deployed in reference projects such as the City of Lyon in France and urban CCTV systems.

Pelco hopes to broaden the market’s understanding of IP-based AV in security applications, from support for full frame-rate video to an understanding of bandwidth constraints and storage requirements.

The video encoders and cameras that integrate with Barco systems are based on an open API, which allows Barco streaming solutions to directly communicate with the supported Pelco cameras and encoders. The new interoperability should result in smoother installation and easier customer deployment, say Pelco officials, while also allowing for a thorough integration with third-party applications.

“Interoperability is crucial in security control rooms today,” said Steven Ooms, market director for traffic and surveillance at Barco, in a statement. “We greatly value our cooperation with Pelco to offer interoperable streaming video solutions to customers worldwide.”
