Engineering firm Larsen and Toubro said it will continue with the operations of Medical Equipment & Systems (MED) business unit and will also bring in new products for providing better health care. “In view of the overwhelming demand from our customers, the L&T management has decided to retain the MED business. L&T will continue to bring in suitable products in the interest of the nation to provide better health care,” L&T President (Operations) and Member of the board RN Mukhija said. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange L&T said, the decision takes into account the interest of stakeholders, customers and distributors. L&T, which has been a provider of a wide range of medical equipment distribution network across the country, further added that it would continue and strengthen its MED business. In response to news reports that the company would be closing down its MED business, L&T, earlier this month, had said it has no intention of closing down operations of its Mysore-based entity. The company had further said it intends to dispose its MED business only if it receives an attractive offer. In June, the company had obtained an enabling resolution from its shareholders for disposal of the said business unit to its subsidiary company or to any other entity. Further, the company is setting up a contemporary manufacturing facility on a recently-acquired site close to its existing unit in Mysore. The MED business continues streamlining its various business processes such as sales and marketing, supply chain and service management as a continuous endeavour for improved operational efficiencies and value creation, the filing added.
