Healthcare magazine, Modern Medicare and GE Healthcare, leading healthcare solutions company, hosted the Modern Medicare Excellence Awards-2007 in Mumbai. The awards were conceptualized to recognise and honor the phenomenal work done by individuals, hospitals and non-medical institutions within the healthcare industry. These institutions and individuals have transcended the path of service with their outstanding leadership and outshined with their performances and growth.

Mr. V Raja, President and CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia said, “Through this Awards we aim to recognize those who have made a profound impact on access to quality, affordable healthcare and better patient outcomes. Today, there is a paradigm shift from treating late stage diseases to diagnosing them at an early stage.  Many doctors and healthcare providers have been instrumental in encouraging the concept of ‘Early Health’ and it is important that we create a platform to recognize this. “Today, it is one of the highlights of our calendar year to take an evening out and celebrate the excellent work of Indian Healthcare sector.”

The award includes 10 categories both for individual, and institutions. Following were the winners:

Hall of Fame: Shree Chitra Hospital for providing high quality medical care absolutely on a no cost basis to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and financial status in an overall spiritual environment which recognizes the patient as a human being and not as a diseased entity. Face of Year: Dr V Mohan for his extensive work in diabetes started the Pace Diabetes Project for people with diabetes. Due to his efforts, the centre became the world’s First ISO 9001-2000 Certified Diabetes Centre. Dr Mohan has also made the centre the first NABL Accredited Diabetes Biochemical Lab in India. Marketing Campaign of the year: The Life Cell campaign for all the information on Stem Cells, stem cell banking, advantages of banking, the procedure, FAQs on stem cells & banking Administrator of the year: Dr Thulasiraj, Aravind Eye Care Systems. AECS performed 2,75,000 surgeries and examined 2.3 million patients in the past year, with close to 70 per cent of patients receiving treatment free of cost. Young Achiever of the year: Mr Bansal,  RG Stone, Chennai Entrepreneur of the year: Mr Kalyanpur for teleradiology reporting solutions to over 80 hospitals & clinics in USA, Singapore, Puerto Rico, & India; his organisation is also accredited by JCAHO. Safe practicing hospital: Apollo Hospitals & Wockhardt Hospital NGO of the year: Smile Foundation for providing education in 21 states; and Mobile health programmes in 190 villages, covering 5.7 lakh population across 6 states Social Responsibility initiative: Meenakshi Mission Hospital for initiatives in AIDS and TB treatment and partnering with the Govt of Tamil Nadu. Special Award Individual / institute: Individual – Dr KB , for Ruby Hall Clinic Institute – Frontier Lifeline

The nominees in various categories are chosen by the industry and are carefully audited by Frost & Sullivan. This year the jury constituted some of the most eminent and renowned names of the industry such as Dr. Y P Bhatia, Chairman
