Cerner, a leading international supplier of healthcare information technology (HIT) solutions, announces the opening of a new office in Dublin as it continues to expand its healthcare IT presence in Ireland. Officially opened in December 2007, Cerner’s Dublin office is an exciting next step in the company’s European growth strategy. After serving the Republic of Ireland via its London operations for the past three years, this new office serves to strengthen Cerner’s relationships with key clients and enhance its software offerings for the European market by having translation and localization services in Ireland. “Ireland is a rapidly growing market for advanced healthcare technology, with an increasing focus on improving healthcare at the primary level. Cerner’s end-to-end solutions, service portfolios and proven market leadership in healthcare IT are already influencing healthcare transformation in Ireland as we continue to enlarge our presence in the region,” noted David Sides, Managing Director of Cerner Limited in the UK and Director of Cerner Ireland. With operations in 18 countries, Cerner has provided healthcare solutions to clients in the United Kingdom for more than 20 years. The company’s entry into the Irish market came in June 2004, when St. James’s Hospital, the Republic of Ireland’s largest teaching hospital, chose Cerner as their healthcare IT partner to implement an integrated RIS/PACS and Order Communications solution as the first stage of their hospital-wide, patient centric, clinical information solution. The system at St. James’s Hospital provides the clear benefit of combining data, imaging, orders and results and establishes the foundation for a full electronic patient record. Cerner’s system unifies radiology information system (RIS), a picture archiving and communications system (PACS) and the electronic ordering and display of results for all pathology and radiology examinations within the hospital and the benefits of the new system are already being seen. Throughout the hospital, consultants, doctors and nurses are noting how much easier and quicker it is to order and view results, saving their patients and themselves valuable time. For example, official reports on all X-rays can be completed within an hour where they used to take more than a day to turn around. Cerner Ireland Ltd. is located at Newenham House in the Northern Cross Business Park, Dublin.
