Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced that it has earmarked 100 million dollars to create a new fast-track grants initiatives to support the global health research. The new initiative named ‘Grand Challenges Explorations’ seeks to support hundreds of early-stage research projects and will focus on a large number of innovative ideas that could lead to new vaccines, diagnostics, drugs and other technologies targeting disease that claim millions of lives every year. The exploration initiative is an expansion of Gates Foundation’s commitment to the Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative launched in 2003 to accelerate the discovery of new technologies to improve global health.
