Mere economic growth will not address the issues related to the plight of the Indian child who continues to suffer from under-nourishment, anaemia and lack of basic schooling facilities, as per Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. Amartya Sen, speaking in one event organized by UNICEF in Kolkata, (India), stressed the need for greater government investment in both education and healthcare by including women and various unions. He said that India could not guaranty the right to education of children. He also cited the problems associated with malnutrition among children particularly girls.
