Italian patients will soon be able to receive medical care, to access personal medical data and to receive diagnoses on their condition through telemedicine service. An Italian health care service provider, Telbios has contracted Alcatel to provide video assistance and remote monitoring services for residential telemedicine services. This service will allow patients to make video calls and hold videoconferences with medical staff on mobile terminals. It will also make secured transmit of electronic medical and lifestyle data and receiving interpretation and diagnosis information on the TV set at home possible. Thus it will assist patients with chronic diseases and also those who may have difficulty getting around, like elderly people living alone. The solution will require the installation of a specific set-top box (STB) at the patient’s residence, connected to the TV and a web cam to enable video calls. The service will be available on terrestrial, mobile and satellite broadband communication networks. Alcatel will supply and install its Genesys contact centre platform that combines call centre functionalities with the ability to manage video calls, including those from mobile terminals.
